Images:
- 300dpi
TIFF files (not JPEG) - images should not be resized upwards in your
layout application, as this will reduce the resolution.
Colour
mode:
- Colour
images are achieved using four basic ink colors:
C = Cyan M
= Magenta Y = Yellow K
= black ("CMYK")
The combination of these four colours make up all of the possible
colours in your artwork. Everything from the photos to coloured fonts
are made up of a percentage of those four colours.
- Bitmap
images (mono graphics, barcodes etc) - 1200dpi
- Never
use GIF's or JPG's, which are compressed to 72dpi. The resolution
is far too low for the fine quality line screen of our printing presses.
- RGB Images are not acceptable for Printing of CD/DVD face or Paper Parts - NO RGB images
File Format:
- We prefer
artwork supplied in Illustrator (to CS2) or Quark (to 4.1). We also
accept PhotoShop (to CS2), Indesign CS2, Freehand and EPS files.
- We do
not accept PDF artwork, we require the raw files from which the PDFs
were created. PC or Mac artwork is acceptable
- Artwork
is to be supplied on CD only, email or floppies are not acceptable.
- PhotoShop
Files please supply the unflattened PhotoShop file (TIF is good) and
any fonts you have used - Make sure you have allowed for bleed for
Booklets and covers
- No bleed
required for Screen printed CDs and DVD face prints.
- Fonts
please include all fonts, convert all fonts to curves- this makes
changes by us not possible. If the job is urgent it has to be fixed
by us then include all your build files & fonts so we may be able
fix it for you.
Bleed required for all Paper Parts, Booklets,
covers rear tray inserts:
- All
artwork bleed at least 3mm off the edges of the page to allow for
safe cropping.
- Crops
and Folds Crops and folds must be marked clearly, and defined in "registration"
colour, not black, so they appear on all separated plates. If you
are inexperienced then, we may be able to supply a template.
- For
booklets please supply as per the Template PDFs spec sheets found
on our templates page. Your artwork must be supplied exactly as the
PDF dimensions and layout. We charge $105+GST per hour to sort your
artwork out
- We
don't want to have touch your artwork we much prefer you to supply
it as per specifications.
On-CD/DVD
artwork:
- Please
specify clearly if you require a white base to be printed underneath
your artwork. If this is not specified, the supplied colours will
be printed directly onto the metallic surface of the CD.
- It
is best for CD Screen printing, where there is no "Photographic" image
used, that the artwork is supplied as spot colour. What this means
is when there are solid colours to be printed on CD's you should supply
them as Pantone Colours rather than CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow &
Black). This will result in better print.
- We can
not guarantee consistency of colour in screen printing jobs supplied
as CMYK and as such, if we see that your artwork has no need for CMYK,
we will advise you to resupply files in spot colour. If you proceed
with CMYK, understand the print result may not be what you expected
and we can not be held responsible.
CD/DVD Design
notes:
- We print
our Discs with Offset or Screen Printing process. For best results please
consider the points below when creating your design.
- Do
not add Bleed.
- Unless
you specify a White Base, the base colour of your Disc will be silver,
which will give you less contrast than a paper print.
- Your
inkjet or laser printed paper printouts will be printed at a higher
resolution than screen printing will achieve.
- Include
registration marks per spec sheet but remove key lines.
- Do
not blank out the inner spindle hole. This is removed when we make
the film.
- Centre
all the appropriate elements.
- Graduated
tints can sometimes 'band' causing a obvious step from light to dark.
- Spot
colour tints generally require a white base for best results. If printed
on silver expect less contrast and a lighter result than if on white.
Tints generally look lighter when screen printed.
- Some
Pantone colours appear translucent on a silver background.
- For
those working in PhotoShop please beware of the following:
Please
ensure you are working in CMYK not RGB.
When outputing a spot colour job in PhotoShop please use the C,M,Y
& K channels to represent your Pantone Colours.
- Spot
Colours and Duotones Spots and Duotones are acceptable, unless you
are very experienced this may be too complex, better employ the services
of an experienced designer to ensure your artwork will be successful.
- Please
use only the Pantone system to define spots, and ensure that naming
is kept consistent through-out EPS files.
